We are not Our Thoughts

At present, there are a great number of tips on how to realize our dreams in life and get anything we desire.

Many books, an endless number of sites, and blogs are dedicated to this topic.

The main idea of this topic is: "We create our life with our thoughts;" “We are what we think.” The instructions on how to think and what exactly to think at our fingertips.

It seems so simple, no-brainer: think positive; visualize what you want to achieve and so on. After all, these are our thoughts, and we can think whatever we want to and however we want to.

In this article, I’ll not be talking about the process of thinking; this is a separate topic and will be considered later. My aim is to show that the thinking happens randomly, and there is no one in control of the process. And for this I do not need much time. If you have a critical mind, it is not so difficult to realize.

We all want to have the best for ourselves. Well, who would deliberately harm himself if he were in sound mind?

It is well known that positive thoughts create pleasant feelings. And who does not want to have them – the pleasant feelings? Masochist. (In this case, the meaning is to torture oneself with the negative thoughts: I am such and such, I can’t do it, I am not loved, not respected, and so on). Are We Masochists?

Why are we not able to constantly think positively? I hope everyone will agree with this one: we can’t constantly keep positive thoughts and it does not matter what the reason is.

In order to be able to think about something (in the sense of creating), we must believe in it. That is, the thought doesn’t have a power, unless it is emotional. And without belief there are no emotions, and we believe only in something that has already been experienced by us emotionally. In other words, we can’t produce emotion in regards to any thought, unless we had some previous experience of it.

We can not think of a thought, for a prolonged period, if there is no emotional background connected to the thought, thus, we are not able to command our mind, and to control our thoughts.

The above clearly shows that everything we think about, and wish (the desire is the fruit of the thought) does not depend on us, we do not manage this process.

To be an absolute owner of the mind implies an ability to manage our thoughts in any possible way we consciously decide to.

For example, if we tell our mind to think about (choose any topic), say to think about the weather for a particular period of time, we notice that we are not be able to last even a few minutes, our thoughts about the weather diminish, and we start thinking about something else, something that either is triggered by an external source or an internal image.

Most of us don't fully realize it, because we forget about it right away and always have an explanation to why we didn't succeed, such as "I am not interested", "This is boring" and so on. Indeed, it is a sign of a weak higher brain functioning (not conscious enough, not aware of mental process). I am pretty sure those people will not even be reading this article.

Those minutes of mentally remembering the subject that we have chosen to think about, will show us how long we can stay conscious. Yes, it is a quickie :-), but majority of people don't even have this moment. It means that they are strongly identified with their mind, the thinking.

We do not owe our thoughts; we are not our thoughts. If you identify yourself with the thinking process, you will not be able to understand or influence it.

To study and to know any subject, there must be an observer outside of the subject. There is no way around it.

Practicing detachment will give you the ability to study your thinking process. It is a second-tier thinking, higher brain function. It is still thinking, but with increased consciousness.
